THE 10 BEST FONTS FOR ADVERTISING

When we talk about graphic advertising design or type foundry, many elements play an essential role in making the result striking and effective. Whether for web design or the more traditional form of advertising, such as posters, typography is decisive in achieving our goal. If your goal is to print advertising banners in large format, you must consider which typeface to choose; not all of them attract the same attention.

A poorly chosen font can punish a well-executed design, so it is essential to know our objective and choose the typeface that supports the rest of the content. It isn’t easy to decide, mainly when hundreds of different fonts exist. As a general recommendation, it is convenient to bet on legible, simple, and clean letters, and forget those that are too complex that will make it difficult to read the text.

Font Family Categories

To choose the typeface that best suits our needs, it is worth knowing that there is a way to classify the different typographic families based on some easily recognizable differences. The categories are Serif, Sans Serif, Script, Display, and Symbols. There are freefonts available for your design.

The most used in advertising have to do with the first two categories, Serif and Sans Serif so we will focus on them. Serif fonts have endings in each letter, as ornaments, which achieve a more beautiful finish. Sans Serif letters are usually flattered and do not have serifs or serifs.

The 10 best fonts for advertising

Beyond personal tastes, some typefaces are commonly used in design, whether for convenience, fashion or results. Among all the available ones, we have selected the 10 best fonts for advertising.

Avant-garde

Designed in 1967, this typeface falls under the Sans Serif category. It was born from the design of the Avant Garde Magazine logo, made by Herb Lublain in 1967; it was not until 1977 that its development was completed with all the character design.

To come

The classic typeface, categorized as Sans Serif, whose date of appearance dates back to 1988. Its designer, Adrian Frutiger, is also the creator of another typeface that bears his name, which earned him the position of one of the essential typographers of the century. XX.

Bickham Script

Classic font, created in 1997. It is one of the most current, even though its style is rather old. This typeface is not easy to read, so it is only recommended for cases where the aesthetic requires a Victorian style and the content is limited to a few words.

Bodoni

Designed by the Italian Giambattista Bodoni, this Serif typeface dates from the late 17th century. It has a style similar to Roman typography, with the necessary evolution that the passage of time grants.

Clarendon

This typeface is unique because it is the oldest recorded font to date. It was created in 1845 by Robert Besley and is ideal for emphasizing advertisements on specific topics, as it gives a unique personality.

Franklin Gothic

Typography of the Sans Serif category, created by Morris Fuller Benton in 1992. It is one of the most used in advertising and press headlines due to its variants. In addition, its creator is also the creator of many other sources used today.

Future

During the 20th century, this typeface was one of the most famous and used. Its creation dates back to 1928 when Paul Renner carried it out taking references from the Bauhaus and geometric figures.

Garamond

This font stands out for the balance of its design, with elegance and usability, which makes it suitable for all types of texts and advertisements, especially if they are formal. It was designed by Robert Slimbach in 1988, taking as a reference the original matrices of the printer Claude Garamond.

Helvetica

Which is probably the most used typeface in the world today. Its creation dates back to 1957, and its creators were Max Miedinger and Edouard Hoffman. It is versatile due to all its variants, although its use may have become excessive. Especially after the 70s, when he achieved his greatest fame within modernism.

Myriad

Another of the most current was created at the end of the 90s. It owes its design to Robert Slimbach and Carol Twombly, who made it for Adobe Systems. Its most significant point of fame appeared in 2002 when Apple began using it as a typeface.

This is our list of the 10 best typefaces for advertising, although of course, there are many more. What typeface do you think is essential in advertising? Do you believe that a better designer adapts to tradition or who takes risks and innovates with their ideas?

About us

If you want to add an online magazine to your Drupal site, you may already know that the best CMS for this purpose is Drupal. You can sell digital magazines and even set up a paywall. While some magazines use old, out-of-date CMS such as WordPress or TypePad, these are not robust enough for creating a full-scale magazine website. Consider adding a magazine module to your website to get the most out of it.
