How to remove the light fixture cover?

Access the plastic light fixture via the wooden stepladder to remove any loose pieces. Once you’ve removed it, proceed by removing the screws in the bottom of the light base before disconnecting it from whichever electrical circuit runs your office.

Remove the light shade from the fixture by turning it counterclockwise. In addition, remove screws from around the fixture base to detach it from the ceiling.

Pull chain light fixture. Unscrew these screws in a clockwise direction or, alternatively, loosen them so that removal will not result in damaged walls.

Get a Sturdy Step Ladder

Unless you’re Shaquille O’Neil, then you’ll want something to step on so that you can reach the light bulb that’s burning out. I don’t have a footstool or small self-standing ladder on hand at the moment, so I’ve used a sturdy chair to reach it.

Consider Wearing Gloves

To help with traction when it comes to removing the glass cover or to keep your hands clean and protected, you might want to wear some gloves so you can extend and protect yourself from the top.

For example, you could use some of those mechanic gloves, or gardening gloves so you won’t get irritated by the glass cover. I haven’t exactly done this in my video above since my light cover seems fairly clean and not very rough but if yours is then that will give you something extra to look forward to in your written guide! Remove the Glass Cover

Make sure there is no tension on the device first before you try to remove the glass. Gently, pull off the glass mount until it all comes out of the wall mount.

Find the Clip and Pull Out

First, we wanted to see if any of the clips were constructed differently than the others. So, we took a closer look at them and found that one of the clips was made such that it could be removed from the glass.

How do you remove ceiling light covers without screws?

If you can’t reach the screws from above, you’ll need a tool – but watch out! Over years of opening and closing, this fixture might’ve been post-holed or drilled into by other tools.

The safest way to avoid damaging it is to use a flathead screwdriver or knife. Stick the tool between the base of your light fixture and your ceiling/wall, vertically, facing up towards you.

Once there’s a small clearing you should be able to grab one of the springs with your hand and pull downwards. The fixture will come out from its place on the wall / ceiling.

Tease a flathead screwdriver or a knife between the base of the light fixture and the wall/ceiling. Move the tool up and down until there is a big enough gap for you to get your fingers between the base and the wall/ceiling.

Pull the fixture off of the springs with your hands, being careful not to spread apart any double-sided tape that may have been used to secure it.

How do you remove fluorescent light covers without clips?

If there are not any clips or tabs on your light source, you must slowly wrap your finger under the edge of the cover. We want to emphasize that you’re going to need to manipulate the material quite carefully with extra care.

The last thing we want is for you to cut yourself or injure yourself in any way. Slowly but with force, push the material away from behind the source of light focused on it with two hands – one hand on each side of where you want it to move out of.
